My comment only scratched the surface there are many more example of people fighting back, it's the only sane option.

Now add to this the price shock this fall when spring’s fertilizer shortage appears in the harvest results at the same time that they stop forcing a constraint on fuel prices and there is diesel shortage for harvest and shipping. As well, the war in the Black Sea is damaging grain shipments to Africa, their main supply of grain. Remember how the Old Testament admonished nations for not keeping multiple years of grain reserve to cover years of poor yields, yet the world runs on how many days ahead of food supply? It is way past time to figure the carrying capacity of this planet and work toward that, even while that capacity itself is shrinking due to our constant mortgaging of our future. Nature bats last.

Well said and all so true. We should be at least mobilizing to provide food in the regions where we can predict all of these global shifts are going to cause extreme hunger!

I will as previously share it on Earth, Science. It so solid, yet; ... emtional without being so. Because you dear Mark and Tom, - are able to write so that we feel it; "its scary enogh" - and by mentioning Gaza and Sudan - and that at 1.4 - primarly due to Politics... and then looking ahead. And still we feet C A T T L E with soy, for them to feed the rich, stealing water an proteins. I recently shared a report from Denmark. Our industrial farming as it is; " eats the same amount of protein as could feed 7 million people! I F changes are made to primarily plants; we could F E E D 1 2 million. Love you. Ill share. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61565699637497

Thank you for sharing 2-Degrees on Earth, Science, we really appreciate you getting the message out there. You are so correct about the need to change both how we eat and our agricultural practices. Glad that we hit "emtional without being so." that's exactly what we were shooting for!

Bulls Eye. And I so like that you this time too; end up with; then here is what we C A N do. Always a pleasure.

What's sad is how strongly correlated the politics of policy administrators are with the exacerbation of the climate crisis. On the one hand, this article mentions four very actionable policy agendas. On the other, we have world leaders with their own short-term goals that contradict such radical solutions. However, there is overwhelming evidence of the extreme impacts of global warming, which grow every day and can no longer be ignored. And yet, all we see are delays in implementing proactive policies. "Build safety nets that trigger on a forecast" is excellent advice, but what if agencies that collect the data necessary for these forecasts are themselves impeded?

That is happening. They shut down the 2025 hunger report. They have tried to shut down other reports. Buy Feeding America and the Greater Boston Food Banks and hunger organizations in all fifty states are reporting on hunger. The administration dismissed roughly 400 volunteer and academic authors working on the congressionally mandated National Climate Assessment, took down the report's main online portal, and scrubbed previous assessments from federal websites. The Pushback: Major scientific organizations, including the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and meteorological societies, stepped up to coordinate independent expert networks to draft alternative or supplemental assessments, ensuring the scientific process and public transparency continue. The administration took down NOAA's public-facing educational site climate.gov, laying off staff and removing plain-language explanations of human-caused climate change. The Pushback: Fired and retired federal science workers united to build alternative platforms like Climate.us, securing private funding to restore access to rigorous, accessible tracking of sea-level rise, heatwaves, and storms. NOAA discontinued its 45-year-old tradition of tracking the country's costliest weather and climate disasters. The Pushback: The science nonprofit Climate Central launched an independent version of the billion-dollar disaster database to keep the public informed on rising climate disaster costs.

People fighting back is the only way we will get through to this Administration!

Thank you. I was aware of climate.gov being shutdown but unaware of the alternative. It’s amazing how resilient the scientific community has been these last two years.

The billionaires do not care about the poor who are in their way. Norman Borlang saved millions from starvation, but did he really deserve the Nobel price for research that will end up starving billions? We now have a predicament with no easy answer.

Mark Roberts's avatar

If only we had followed the prophet rather than Borlang

I'm writing 4Hunger.org in hopes that we come up with a solution that doesn't just let the Global North win.

This needs to be shared widely. One of the most important things I have read on substack

Please share it where you can, thanks!

Mark,

So true climate change is going to destroy food production. Also, water supply ( a major source of crop failure is aridity), disease spread, safe ambient habitable temps, and so on. Problem is IPCC knows this and governments know. But, governments, even for their own constituents, barely attempt to halt climate change. The third world is really getting hit super hard.

We never really appreciate how good we have it and how bad they have it and we're ALL brethren.

Share Earth Forward.

Dear MArk and Tom. I just shared a new study, - and I know you can not follow us at fb so here it is. Its.. quite logical, yet only fuelling the intended (! ? ! ) starvation that is, and especially the one to come. I also know by now and have benn reassured by new studies that all models Politicsa are based on.. underestimated feed back loops and P E R M I T T E D gaps, - with around 2 5 percent. Since Kyouto, and wow; " faster , worse than previously estimated". Yet; here are the study most relevant for You. Love! https://phys.org/news/2026-08-fine-particle-pollution-undermine-ability.html?utm_source=nwletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=daily-nwletter&fbclid=IwY2xjawT1kitwZG9mAWV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR7-ZGDF_O4GfqJLVfbunwOvy5h6gXMwo0eXcl3aB_Yl427j8r7rxU1-vzlmfQ_aem_cAih8BEPQKdmyRzRd7Q6Sw and all on Earth, Science and I declare climate emergency.
